Finally its ready to unleash on the world, mine and Dies new tune 1000 soul songs or as its affectionately known up in Gutterfunk HQ 1000 mixdowns Big shout to Mistajam for playin it twice Monday night and huge respect to all the people giving such lovely feedback. Due for release in summer we dedicate this one to the loves that inspired it xx
So i like to make mixes, not club mixes i dont consider myself a club DJ, just selections of good tunes old/new, accoustic/electronic etc wrapped around themes. If you ever checked out Frontroom Radio you’ll see what i mean however i slowly stopped making that mostly because the sound of my own voice irked me somewhat but without a little explanation the mixes seemed quite jumbled. Anyways so i still wanna make mixes with a varied selection of tunes but i dont wanna bore anyone either (im in a paranoid phase artistically right now) so i came up with the 20/20 idea. 20 songs in 20 minutes that will hopefully have you digging out some old records or hunting for something new. I want to see if DJing like Tim Westwood with songs that are better than just there chorus can actually work…so here goes the first session, a reclamation of songs that speak love.
Onra plain and simple i cant stop listening to any and everything i can get my hands on from this little sample shuffling master, might be late on him but does it really matter? Find his past offerings on his myspace but go now and buy the brand new album Long Distance now on itunes with the highly dope High Hopes ft Reggie B, rewinding this tune to death on my iphone fighting urge to two step down the street!
Ok i think i choose a favourite from The Wiz it has to be this jazz fused, colour spectacular absolute genius of a song section with an awesome visual sequence, The Emerald City..dam there being no good videos of this up on Youtube…your gonna have to go watch the film for this songs full audio/visual impact!
Stayed up way to late last night/this morning watching The Wiz, probably the best musical made ever. If you have never heard of it quick story its Wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, Diana Ross as Dorothy, Richard Pryor as The Wizard and Quincey Jones on Musical Production. CLASSIC in other words anyways there are too many amazing songs from this film, i’ve been trying all morning to pick just one to blog…it is impossible. The evil Evalines No Bad News is literally my morning soundtrack, Mean Old Lion is my jungle warrior stance, Ease on down the Road, Colour Gold (sampled by Ebony Bones ) and the rest are all equally as good as each other….ooooo except Lena Horne‘s song thats the only one i would fast forward but never did out of sheer respect and awe at the cabbage patch kids in the background were way to cute!!… i could go on and on and on about this movie the costumes, the performances, the set design but i wont ill just say if you have kids and they haven’t seen this your a bad parent, if you have seen it and think its shit, you have no taste. Have a nice day now
Hot sun and Led Zeppelin playing loud, any 22 year old pretty boys fancy coming round to casually cihll with their tops off, being the cherry on top of what so far is a perfect cake shaped day? Mwah ha ha ha ha ha;)
Thank you to Fatima and the Eglo records camp for this little beauty of a video for the track ‘Soul Glo’ taken from the Mindtravelling EP about to drop on the 22nd. Passed through the Development club night on Friday night to meet the crew thats putting out the track and experience the night and a brand new club Spektrum (upstairs of Sankeys with its own entrance and Watergate styled disco ceiling!). Was loads of fun, the crowd was amazing, the Development lads were lovely and its great to be working with such music lovers, tunes all night were HEAVY, shouts to Glenn Underground for some dirty sounds Did a little PA which was so cool, technically was a nightmare, couldn’t hear myself but apparently i didn’t drop a note which Zed has a bit of footage of just to prove, lol! In the meantime why don’t you check it out for yourself above or at myspace clock up them plays baby
Now i’ve heard the bad things that crack can do to the best of people. Amy Winehouse bleeding from her satin ballet shoes outside 5 star hotels, Bobby Brown teasing poo out of his wife Whitneys arse, James Brown lifting up a police car?!? Oh no wait that was PCP any hoo, the latest stars to fall between the crack are K-ci & Jojo from Jodeci….ok they have been on crack for a while but this video deserves a little talk up and that was it! So now please watch in awe as this cracked out duo take to the stage for one of their biggest hits….
BRUV, NO……K-Ci your COLD, you just left him there, your brother….even bodyguards more concerned about the mic….god i dunno who to blame more for this shameful display. Crack, the audience for paying them or the promoter for organising the whole swarry and agreeing to crack on the rider! I just hope and pray they dont get groupies in this state…like i dont even want to redporn.com that shit can you imagine The Show, The After-Party, The cracked out hotel room orgy?!? Let this be a lesson to all young upstarts out there in the RnB game, Ray J, Llyod im talking to you… Find a wife and find her fast cause eventually the good p***y runs out, you’ll get older and a bit bitter hit the crack pipe and start straight passin out in the middle of your shows…then think of the calibre of p***y you gon get…ewwwwwwwwww!
