Euro-cultured this weekend in Manchester has as per usual a MASSIVE line-up blaring quality music rain or shine all thru the bank holiday. Looking forward to seeing the return of Jehst (who is not my postman, gutted) at Hit n Run on Monday but most excited bout the first live performance from Sleeping Giants aka Zed Bias, Fallacy & Rodney P BLAOW!!! Its a killa combo indeed, the above a little preview featuring the ever illusive Btch Pls ;) See ya in the city this weekend….

beastie boys comic genius!

Their back and all in my grill, well actually they never went away, in fact one of thems my friends neghbour but thats irrelevant and in no way as entertaining as this piece of hip-hop comic genius! Will Farrel, Jack Black, Danny Macbride, Seth Rogan and more…watch.love.laugh and get ready for the short movie Fight For Your Right Revisited out soon ;0)

hip-hop history in 4mins

Wrec jus posted this bad boy on FB, had to share cause it is kinda SICK! Double had to share cause due to the beatboxer Eklips being French, POW ON THE FRENCH TIP!

feeling all french

fr08feelingfrenc

Was it Brassai or Michael Pitt that got me fanatical about France this past weekend? Either way it inspired this mix which is a collection of a few the things i watched and listened to whilst feeling all French. The Dreamers soundtrack provided some excellent Jimi HendrixJanis Joplin as well as turning me onto an old french singer Francoise Hardy , La Haine gets a little feature in there as well as Amelie & Angel A alongside a host of French artists that were already on my harddrive and of course the YSL advert with my current obsession Monseiur Pitt. Enjoy late night when the lights are low with a glass of red wine, whatever poison as long as it makes you mellow, sink back into the sofa or your lovers arms and let the music play… x

waking up in ’93

What a tipsy turvy year it was musically for me. At home i was consuming classic rock & grunge whilst out in the world i was discovering hip-hop. So many albums from that year that i still play loud and proud without cringing. Heres a little sample of my itunes selection today inspired on an even flow from 93 til Infinity ;)

loving this cheesy milk

Now some of you will cringe at this advert from Yeo Valley, the rest will realize its simplistic genius. I know im not the only one who bridged the gap between hip-hop and this milks name whilst browsing the dairy isle with the munchies. Ridiculous props for the Owl swagger, i need this as a gif, however what i don’t need is a copy of this on Itunes (available now, tut tut).

hip-hop halloween

zombie hip hop

‘Trick or Treat FOOL!’ would be my preferred one liner if i were a mugger or car jacker, delivered in the unmistakable tone of B Real from Cypress Hill. Kinda scary huh? Much like this spooktastic Halloween weekend in which so far i’ve seen Terence from South Park, the bride of Frankenstein and a drunk Kranky with monster hands strolling in broad daylight on the streets of Chorlton. Happy Halloween, its a bit of an ironic phrase no? Wouldn’t it make more sense to say Horrifying/Ghastly/Ghoulish Halloween?  In addition Thriller, Monster Mash and Backstreets Back are all overplayed, please shop keepers and bar owners get schooled to these other ghoulish tracks for this time of year…

die da, die da, die da oder die da?!?

I’d told you we’d get to Germany by the end of the day. This is the only German song i can confidently sing along with and still not really know what the hell im saying…lets hope its still big in the karaoke bars in Berlin else ill be stuck with Hasslehoff covers on a drunk night out ;) Dam this song was massive though back in the day, i remember it was always on MTV over here in the UK like 90 erm something or other, oh and there was that french guy too, what was his name again…….. ah Fabe im thinking i have to have french hip hop day at some point, that album was one of my favs back in the day, Detournement De Son!

yes mista french man whatever you say!

Saian Supa Crew are the dope shit, (though im by far superior on the playstation, Glasto ’03 FACT) if you dont know about them then please get to know,  they have been tearing up microphones for at least 12 years that i know of and have consistently kept me captivated without having had a single idea of what their on about. I think that’s the test of a good rapper, if you don’t even understand the language he’s speaking but the flow is still dope enough to keep your attention. In fact with some of the ish these rappers are calling lyrics nowadays it would be a  blessing to not have to understand whats being said…i wonder if Tinchy knows french? Anyhoo this song is ridiculous and has been in my top 10 sexy hip-hop tunes since i first heard it way back when, so many sounds, instruments, vocal tones, its just straight butter….makes me want to dance around in my underwear in front of curtainless windows with a soft light on at night, ‘ahoy there neighbor!’

high fidelity spoof (genius tour advert)

Dan le Sac, Scroobius Pip, Riz MC and Nick Frost all in this wonderful High Fidelity Spoof (if you havent seen that film, why are your reading this blog…go now), the wonders of a great idea executed to perfection….could there be an English version in the making…i’d watch it and im not really a Scroob fan, if you are though tour kicks off in October, dates in the film above.

Raekwon on pop

Wu Tang are just one of my teenage fave’s  gracing the UK shores this summer (checked Snoop & Prince last week,  Salt n Pepa get here in Aug!) caught a bit of the interview Raekwon done for 6music to promote the UK shows, where he says it exactly how it is with regards to artistic content of the modern day pop artist/rapper.

I cant bloody wait to see the Wu…seriously too many albums with too many tunes what the hell are they gonna fit into their live show?? Oh sooo exciting :) Makes you wonder though in terms of the artistic development of the modern day stars he’s talking about are Tinchy, Tinie, Dappy, Sneezy (lmao)  and whoever else you lot listen to gonna be able to get back on stage in 13 years time for a WORLD TOUR? With the unoriginal A&R’ing of the UK major labels just what longevity are they creating for their artists? I’ll stop right there.

possibly my favourite line in hip-hop?

Gotta stop smoking MC’s somebody pass me the nicorette

Freestyle – The Arsonists.

Its short sharp to the point and is not a simile…im sure theres more i like a lot probably but this has stuck with me from day. Any takers??

coming home to you

Caught Hoodman last night at Moho Live why isnt this fella on my tv?? Truely awesome talent who i do not see or hear enough of…remember first hearing in this tune from UK Team and Konny Kon (Broke n £nglish ) when i had my show on 1Xtra. The manny accent and free flowing story line made me home sick as hell living in London. Even though it wasn’t packed in Moho last night (shame on to many people  for a number of different reasons) the vibe was live and everyone who grabbed the mic smashed it big shouts to Siege, Hoodman, Mr Fox & Freestyle for a proper hip-hop evening :P

puff puff give, pour me another one

Two phrases i love inspired this weeks Frontroom Radio. FR05 Smokin & Drinkin is up now at mixcloud and ready for your listening pleasure! Every single track in the hour is either about puffing the good stuff, swilling alcohol, being high or has a connection in the title….All except Bisweed & Spirit included simply for their names! So many tracks i didn’t include leads me to believe that I’ll be making another smokin and drinkin themed selection in my frontroom before the summers out :) Listen.Like.Love.Share.Enjoy!

the swagger wagon

Oh god bless America, they really go to town on the whole advertising thing. I found this offering from the ‘Rollin in the Swagger Wagon‘ series by Toyota over on Crunk & Disorderly. ‘Straight owning bake sales, with my cupcake skills’ has to be one of my favourite lines as coincedently im baking today in my new apron. (see separate post )

my 90′s style icon

In my recreational haze of a memory i always thought my short hairstyle circa 1996 was inspired by the infamous T-Boyz from TLC however recent discoveries in my tape box (Born Gangsta) and on youtube have rejogged that memory…i can now confirm that my sweet 16 style icon was in fact Boss. A milli, a milli, a militant rapper, whose name stood for Bitch On Some Shit, clad head to toe in black (of course) and looking like a tru G, i so need to get a tape player, this album is RIDICULOUS! Check out ‘i dont give a f**k’ for the most swearing in a chorus i think ever, for now this is Deeper!

i’ll make stew out of you!

So last night one of my oldest friends dropped round whilst Lords of the Underground were playing in the background, cue a 3 hour Youtube fest of all the tracks we used to bang insanely back in the day. Soooooooo many artists i forgot and soooooo many tracks that still KILL IT! So let us begin i got STFD for days on the 90′s tip! Raw Breed – Rabbit Stew, what you know bout this? (more…)

where is my click suit?

…and my bandanna to tie round my ponytail 96 style! Twitter convo today with Harry Love has informed me Lords of The Underground are playing in Paris this evening, F**K DAM AWWWW! I wanna go so bad, especially after rehashing my Yo! MTV Raps days, this tune was a banger! Not to mention the ridiculously gully beat down shots from Mr. Funke and DoItAll Dupré, god the 90′s were so fun…bon chance dans Paris fellas, air kisses and hiphop fists to ya :P

SFTD worst comes to worst – dilated peoples

In honour of my sisters Jared Leto lookalike 20 year old boyfriend (who is quite obsessed with hip-hop) but dedicated to all the people that come first in my life. Classic track from the Dilated Peoples, hope enjoy.

Have a nice day ya’ll ;)

cancer bats sabotage

Ever since my tshirt sleeves were ripped off by the lead singers teeth last year in Tokyo i have been a keen fan of the Cancer Bats . The video to Pnuemonia Hawk sealed the deal thanks to the maple syrup drinking plaid shirt wearing, lumberjack styles of the hunky drummer. So naturally im ecstatic about the new album Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones but a little pissed their not playing in Manchester whilst over in the UK promoting said new release, London is not the epi centre of the UK you know! Anyhoo in honor of their new album, selective UK dates and the pipe smoking, heartthrob of a drummer i thought i’d post their cover of The Beastie Boys Sabotage which was released back in March, enjoy!
