20/20 One

So i like to make mixes, not club mixes i dont consider myself a club DJ, just selections of good tunes old/new, accoustic/electronic etc wrapped around themes. If you ever checked out Frontroom Radio you’ll see what i mean however i slowly stopped making that mostly because the sound of my own voice irked me somewhat but without a little explanation the mixes seemed quite jumbled. Anyways so i still wanna make mixes with a varied selection of tunes but i dont wanna bore anyone either (im in a paranoid phase artistically right now) so i came up with the 20/20 idea. 20 songs in 20 minutes that will hopefully have you digging out some old records or hunting for something new. I want to see if DJing like Tim Westwood with songs that are better than just there chorus can actually work…so here goes the first session, a reclamation of songs that speak love.

Enjoy x

theres a stillness in time

Pulled out Jamiroquais Return Of The Space Cowboy from the CD rack this week and it hasn’t left my stereo since, such perfect music for the glorious weather and it still sounds more than relevant 17 years after its release. Definately my favourite album from Jay Kay and the┬álads i’d forgotten just how amazing some of the songs are; Half The Man, Mr Moon & Morning Glory!! Do not play these when your alone with me if you dont want me to jump your bones! Far to early (in the UK) for any rumpy pumpy so hows about this little beauty instead, enjoy ;)

red, gold & green

Ok i think i choose a favourite from The Wiz it has to be this jazz fused, colour spectacular absolute genius of a song section with an awesome visual sequence, The Emerald City..dam there being no good videos of this up on Youtube…your gonna have to go watch the film for this songs full audio/visual impact!

can’t pick a favourite

Stayed up way to late last night/this morning watching The Wiz, probably the best musical made ever. If you have never heard of it quick story its Wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, Diana Ross as Dorothy, Richard Pryor as The Wizard and Quincey Jones on Musical Production. CLASSIC in other words anyways there are too many amazing songs from this film, i’ve been trying all morning to pick just one to blog…it is impossible. The evil Evalines No Bad News is literally my morning soundtrack, Mean Old Lion is my jungle warrior stance, Ease on down the Road, Colour Gold (sampled by Ebony Bones ) and the rest are all equally as good as each other….ooooo except Lena Horne‘s song thats the only one i would fast forward but never did out of sheer respect and awe at the cabbage patch kids in the background were way to cute!!… i could go on and on and on about this movie the costumes, the performances, the set design but i wont ill just say if you have kids and they haven’t seen this your a bad parent, if you have seen it and think its shit, you have no taste. Have a nice day now ;)
