Out Now is the 80′s homage from Krystal Klear and myself Addiction on Rinse, i popped into the label HQ in East London last week to record a live version for their Rinse Sessions. Helping me out with the acoustic backing was EngineEarz/Arusha Accord guitarist Tom Hollings and JLS newest band member Jack Guppy who did an excellent job had really fun day thanks to them, Julie and the drive time crew. See how it all went down above
We made it back from Sardinia and the wild roads of Europe, i swear thought i was dead 2 times in France thanks to Dads sporadically bad driving. Apart from that Laundry day and Sun & Bass were so much fun, The G family officially love Sardinia which as always was a joy, big shouts to all crew that made it so. Henry loved the beaches of San Teadoro, he even had his first swim 100m off shore (what a brave little puppy!) and got the first stamp in his passport! Since our return my Dad has bought his first espresso pot and is planning on annoyingly answering the telephone in Italian for the rest of his life ‘Bon Journo’. It was funny to spending time with him on the road, even if his stick shift driving is a bit rusty we had a lot of fun taking wrong turns, passing through borders stoned, buying alcohol at motorway service stations, telling tour stories and singing along to the epic collection of music i loaded onto a USB stick for the snazzy system in the hire car. 8gbs of musical entertainment easily saw us through the 28 hours of road time clocked up over 3000km of road in 7 countries, wanted to give you a taster but how do i boil that down to 20 minutes?
Start her up to find out
You’d think that with only 20 songs to pick and 20mins of mixing to be done i could knock these 20/20 selections together weekly, however you’d be wrong. My time keeping for personal projects as of late is abysmal and so it seems for now 20/20 is a monthly thing, this month im feeling all girly and so my mix will be just that…of the female persuasion.
Set to drop in August probably the most anticipated DnB album this year from MC veteran DRS ’I Dont Usually Like Mcs. But’ landed in my inbox last week and honestly i havent listened to much else since. So many amazing tracks, artists and producers on such an accomplished debut, im humbled to know him and to be a part of it. Currently the busiest MC from Manchester im guessin his bookings are gonna be out of control once this hits the shops! Avaliable now the singles Count to Ten ft Enei and Holding On ft Riya & Jehst are an epic slice of whats to come. Big up to all involved, raising a glass to your success xx
Coming up on the radar is Pohoda festival which will be a first time for me, very honored to be playing there alongside DJ Die right after Public Enemy! Also looking forward to catching up with the Drumatique crew, roll on the 7th of July
So i like to make mixes, not club mixes i dont consider myself a club DJ, just selections of good tunes old/new, accoustic/electronic etc wrapped around themes. If you ever checked out Frontroom Radio you’ll see what i mean however i slowly stopped making that mostly because the sound of my own voice irked me somewhat but without a little explanation the mixes seemed quite jumbled. Anyways so i still wanna make mixes with a varied selection of tunes but i dont wanna bore anyone either (im in a paranoid phase artistically right now) so i came up with the 20/20 idea. 20 songs in 20 minutes that will hopefully have you digging out some old records or hunting for something new. I want to see if DJing like Tim Westwood with songs that are better than just there chorus can actually work…so here goes the first session, a reclamation of songs that speak love.
I didnt come up with the spelling however i will be providing and hour of unadulterated disco in the basement of the Soup Kitchen the 10th of Feb. Be there or being obtuse…
Twittered this video earlier in the week but the mp3 just landed in my inbox thanks to All Young Kings doing their promo ting! Mr Scruff as funky as ever and being played loudly in my car whilst driving windows open through Chorlton before i return it back to the rental shop! Wobble Control 12″ vinyl out now at the Ninja Shop
Lot of love for the tune D1 & me have done for Dubpolice, Flood Of Emotion or ‘the track that got my Mum into dubstep’ which is what im calling it! Instead of giving you just the one track to listen to i found this 10 track mix from D1 on Mixcloud via Ras Kwame, featuring our forthcoming release. Hope you enjoy tuesdays little taster
Where do i begin? Its been nearly a month since i last checked in and theres so much to post, i guess the only way is to work backwards. So im in Berlin, i’ve been here for about 5 weeks gigging around Germany. Ulm, Wurzburg, Braunschweig, Berlin every gig has been immense, have to give thanks to all that got me to their home towns and looked after me so well Monday night just gone i DJ’d at Stereo 54 here in Berlin it was scary as hell but if i remember correctly the dance floor was moving, busy plus the awesome bar staff kept me well liquored up afterwards all gratis, so i guess i did ok! Big Shouts to Thomas & Tom for letting me spin some of my favourite tunes was very fun indeed once i got over my nerves and got used to using vinyl (serato style) again, thanks to Oscar for the helping hand! Thought i’d say thank you as well to everyone who came down by letting off this little mix that i did for FrontRoom radio early this year, my chats a bit dated, dont mind the ‘exclusive’ talk the music is still all good
Tonight me and the Kabuki will be laying down our funky stuff in Sun and Bass like true warrior souls, as i said on Monday wish you were here its gonna be fun as hell no doubt. Don’t feel like your missing out though cause you can catch a slice of the Warrior Soul session me and Kabuki did for Carhartt Radio right here. So just turn up the central heating, poor some deep drinks, turn the lights down low and ill see you on the flip now you hear
Im thinking this year theres gonna be alot of sick house parties in San Teodoro this September judging by some of these DJ mixes from festival goers hoping to win a set at this years Sun & Bass. Theres enough entries to give me a daily fix until the off lets hope there all as good as this from EdanUK, i can almost feel the sun coming through my speakers on this selection perfect for getting reayd after a day at the beach
The competition has closed to win a set at this years Sun & Bass festival in Sardinia however the mixes are still up online for your listening pleasure, today i’ve been enjoying Outlines upload at full blast and if you like laid back breaks and beats i think you should do the same too
