Last night was a celebration of many things but most importantly it was the hometown launch for DRS’s album ‘I dont usually like MCs but’. My hometown, our Manchester came out in full force local artists old & new delivering their homegrown talents, wearing homegrown labels! Im not gonna lie im still drunk but not black out drunk i remember having an awesome time last night with some pretty awesome people. Big Up Del and all the Estate Recordings Crew, Marcus and the Soulution family, Band on the Wall and all that partied hard within her!
Yeah its vacuous but i cant help but comment on the real life Twilight drama that has kicked off this week, mostly because its popping up on feeds all over the place. Bella cheated on the vampire with a married man, a director surprisingly….Now cheating is bad in any circumstance but forgive me for thinking its a little more serious if your married and have two kids, so why am i only hearing how she fucked up, Holy Moly says exactly what ive been thinking but way more wittier…
Forgive us for moralising, and all that, but doesn’t it seem like Rupert has gotten off very bloody lightly? K-Stew’s the one getting called a bitch and a slut on Twitter, and possibly having to write a letter of apology to Liberty Ross, because apparently it is a far worse crime to be 22, a bit daft, and cheat on your boyfriend than to be, you know, a married father of two, screwing a girl practically half your age?
This has to be the funniest thing ive heard so far in the lead up to the games, Oddbins are launching a ‘marketing counter strike’ aimed at the draconian and quite absurdly harsh Olympic Branding laws which has stopped businesses in the capital and across the nation that aren’t official sponsors profiting from the games, banning the use of words such as “gold”, “Games”, “2012″, “summer” and “London” in any of their promotions. Ridiculous right? So Oddbins is offering a massive 30% discount to any of their customers who kit themselves out in branding rivals to the LOCOG main sponsors. Turn up in a pair of Nike trainers, with a set of Vauxhall car keys, an RBS MasterCard, an iPhone, a bill from British Gas and a receipt for a Pepsi bought at KFC and you will receive 30 per cent off your purchase! Yes everyone be warned its my birthday in 3 weeks time and keeping with tradition ill be kicking off the celebrations in Belgium this Saturday night for a months long paaaaar-tay, who says birthdays are just for one day?
As Miss Hannigan so rightly sang in 1985s’ classic musical Annie ‘Some women are dripping with Diamonds, some women are dripping with Pearls…’ but this morning lucky me, lucky me guess what this womens driveway was dripping with? No not little girls…. (more…)
The last time my Dad took me to a concert i was about 6, we went to see Huey Lewis and the News at the M/cr Apollo. We were 7 rows from the front and i got took to the front by security and guitar solo serenaded by Chris Hayes , swoon. In fact wait that wasn’t the last time i just remembered he took me to see Extreme at the Gmex on their Pornograffiti tour when i was 8 or 9, no serenades but Mr Bettencourt i know you were playin just for me! ‘More than Words’ remember that track? PGL banger back in the day if you dont know, your not old enough. Anyways I digress. Last night me and Da were back out at the Apollo for Thin Lizzy, the reunion tour. (more…)
It was never gonna be an easy for Manchester’s bass hungry massive to decide where to go last night? 1 ) A new night promising the best that 2step and all its affiliates has to offer put together by the Godfather himself Zed Bias or the a longtime label backed dnb night offering an old skool sets from Dillinja, Dubphisix and Marcus Intallex… wanna know where i ended up?
Do people still play handheld consoles that arent a smartphone or ipad? Sony says yes and celebrates with an official launch party…somehow i got invited (If i hadnt off i would’ve been pissed…danke Mr Reason x) and so a few weeks back i ate mini canapes and swilled free booze whilst listening to Tim Westwood play 30 secs of every club banger i’ve ever known and spotting premiership footballers. From what i can remember it was a lot of fun indeed. Thank you PS Vita, thank you Rich Reason, thank you Manchester always a big turn out when there’s free grog up for grabs Pics after the jump…
A huge thanks to Chimp Magazine for two very fun experiences this month, my first front cover on their bestselling Manchester whats on guide and my first time reaching for a magazine off the top shelf. Yes thats right my face right next to someones mum holding her very ample breasts, like two raw turkeys savagely against her chest. I dont know why Etchells figured this was top shelf material but either way im thankful for the experience and for such a lovely interview, Seamus thank you very much, another reason im back blogging for the time being The magazine is out now in well stocked newsagents in the manny area, if its not at the counter look on the top shelf ;P
Euro-cultured this weekend in Manchester has as per usual a MASSIVE line-up blaring quality music rain or shine all thru the bank holiday. Looking forward to seeing the return of Jehst (who is not my postman, gutted) at Hit n Run on Monday but most excited bout the first live performance from Sleeping Giants aka Zed Bias, Fallacy & Rodney P BLAOW!!! Its a killa combo indeed, the above a little preview featuring the ever illusive Btch Pls See ya in the city this weekend….
I fucking love this lady, she would probably hate me due to my uneducated feminist angst, i love her even more for that!
Amidst the chaos, stars are born
So what started on Thursday as a dull twinge has developed over the weekend into a left leg spasm inducing almighty back pain. I have been advised to do next to nothing for a day or two, which of course i intially ignored due to being halfway through moving into a studio and decorating my bedroom. Then at precisely 11.36 this morning whilst bending down to screw together my bed post and base together, what can only be described as a triillion ameoba sized evil dwarfs stabbed me from the inside out using plastic forks and electric tasers…i have never felt such pain even though im sure theres worse, which in no way i would like to experience. Im currently lying as instructed on my side (legs slighty bent as above) whilst cursing myself for not listening and consoling myself with Ikea cinnamon buns, Words with Friends (hit me up JennaralG for a match) and Hot Sauce Committee Part 2
Manchester residents might be all to familiar with Fallowfields Chilli Grill, not so familiar however with the Chilli Grillionaire. Get acquainted amidst the beef that is the fallowfield chicken wars, Chilli if you please…

Whilst im chuckling at all the facebook status’s poking fun at todays international celebration of women the statistics in this video as well as Daniel Craig in drag are far from amusing and should remind us all just how far there is to go until men and women are truely equal in this day and age… (more…)

Drunk dialling, texing, facebooking, whatever…stop it now!
I love me an action movie, Jason Statham & Ben Foster so hallelujah that today The Mechanic is released! Funnily i havent seen it yet (im usually two steps ahead me hearties) however it has to be awesome regardless of the run of the mill trailer (above). Statham has paid his dues in this genre not one film has disappointed action wise though script, storyline and casting have never all hit as hard as he can however The Mechanic (terrible name) has to be his first all rounder, right? Ben Foster who is not known for appearing in shitty movies and Donald Sutherland who despite Virus is still a bad man make up a pretty strong cast! Looking forward to my first cinema visit in a while to check this out over the weekend…anyone with me, i have no shame going alone!
Lately i cant help but take photos with the black and white function on my camera, even in the most modern of settings i love the way it turns any scene into a 40′s snap shot, timeless and quite genius. (my snaps are in the Flickr photos top left in sidebar)Watching The Dreamers last night i made the link between the recent hue of my snaps and my Brassai obsession which began about this time last year. Wishing i lived when he did in Paris armed with a fierce set of post war suspenders and a camera. In that booth, that embrace, slipping into the misty shadows at the end of the street, red wine, smoke, velvet, metal, white tiles and cobble stones…
Words cannot describe how much i miss Michael Pitt on my small screen after steamrolling through Boardwalk Empire this week, cannot recommend enough. Now please Mr Walburg/Scorsese can you get the second season running so Jimmy can hurry back now ya here Ugh i never wanted someone elses feet so much…..i guess to pass the time ill just have to watch everything he’s ever done since Hedwig…happily bedridden
